Flagg is of Finnish ancestry. She was bred on the Birmingham suburb of Irondale. She was an archery champion at the age of twelve. In high school she was a cheerleader and also played the saxophone in the band during half-time. During the decade of 1970, Flagg participated on game show panels. The autobiographical novel is written in a non-common way. It simulates a diary, with a beginning date in 1952 -with an 11-year-old girl called Daisy Fay Harper.

On one of the visits, Evelyn meets Ninny Threadgoode, who is another resident of the nursing home, and she tells Evelyn stories of her past in Whistle Stop in the decade of 1920s. Between those visits, Evelyn takes the protagonists of the stories as role-models.

Sometime later, Flagg started writing the screenplay based on the book, which was release of 1991 as an adaptation. She had small cameo in the film. Mitch Rapp is back!
